Kirkman’s Homocysteine Guard is a highly effective reducer of homocysteine. Most commercial homocysteine reducing products only contain vitamin B products. Kirkman’s Homocysteine Guard includes trimethylglycine (TMG) in addition to the B vitamins folic acid, vitamin B-6 and vitamin B-12.
Eating a diet high in green, leafy vegetables supports low homocysteine levels as does the supplementation of vitamins folic acid, vitamin B-6 and vitamin B-12. TMG, produced from beets, is important in the body process called methylation. In the methylation process, harmful homocysteine levels are reduced by the conversion of the homocysteine to SAMe and methionine, two healthy compounds which enhance methylation and protect against disease.
Homocysteine is an amino acid that serves as a building block in making up proteins. It is accepted in the medical establishment that low homocysteine levels promote good health, while high levels can be a contributor to the early development of heart and blood artery disease (arteriosclerosis). Doctors are not positive how homocysteine contributes to these risks, but there does seem to be a definite link.
Though low homocysteine levels do not reduce the risk of heart diseae, promoting good health by keeping healthy levels of homocysteine is recommended by the American Medical Association and the American Heart Association.
