Gingko biloba is one of the world's oldest living tree species, believed to have survived for more than 2000 years. Ginkgo is considered a sacred tree by the Chinese and has been used to support good health in the Orient for centuries. Many of the ancient uses have been further supported by clinical studies.
The main active compounds in Ginkgo leaves are the flavoglycosides and terpene lactones. These compounds are the marker compounds that must be present in Ginkgo preparations in order for the product to be effective. Kirkman® uses a standardized extract from the leaves of Ginkgo biloba, which has been assayed and is guaranteed to contain 24% flavoglycosides and 6% terpene lactones.
